Kniphofia ‘Buttercup’ (Red Hot Poker) Vigorous and free-flowering, Kniphofia ‘Buttercup’ features bronzed stems bearing attractive terminal spikes of tubular, bright yellow flowers gradually opening from green buds. Native to South Africa, this eye-catching plant provides weeks of color from early to mid summer. Red Hot Pokers are hardy in USDA zones 6 to 9. In cold areas, if you can grow an Adam’s needle (Yucca filimentosa), you probably can grow Red Hot Poker. The key, though, is water drainage. While the crown and roots are hardy, they cannot withstand sitting in soggy soils, especially in winter and early spring. A tall-growing perennial hardy in USDA zones 5 through 10, red hot poker (Kniphofia uvaria) produces a large number of flowers on each plant. It makes an excellent cut flower that lasts a week or longer in a bouquet.

So my favorite all time perennial is the beautiful Red Hot Poker plant.. from the first time i saw this plant I am always looking to add more to my yard and learn more about it.
It seems as if there are two varieties that i have come upon that i have in my yard — one is a spring/early summer bloomer and the other is a later summer bloomer.
I love the latter so much more. that thing just blooms and blooms all summer but i have yet to find any more of these at nurseries in my area. I would like to try to grow some more
of these from seed.. can anyone please provide some direction on how i can do this with this plant? It is rather large at this time so i could possibly split it ( that is possible, right?)
but i really rather not.
Any insight on the seedlings, etc would be much appreciated.
